Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is looking for students to help other students learn in 2026. We need people who are doing well in their studies and who want to share their knowledge. These roles are called “Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Student Assistants” or simply tutors. If you like teaching and want a part‑time job that fits around your classes, this could be a great fit for you.
What the PAL Programme Does
The PAL programme is a team of tutors who run study groups and help classmates understand their courses. The aim is to make learning easier and to keep students interested in their studies. PAL tutors work with a teacher who tells them how to run a good session and what to focus on. Their job is to explain tricky parts of a subject and show classmates good ways to study.
Main Duties for PAL Tutors
As a PAL tutor, you will:
- Hold group study sessions that follow a clear plan set by your instructor.
- Help classmates understand the material and pick up useful study habits.
- Work with teachers and other PAL leaders to keep track of who comes to each session and how engaged they are.
- Tell teachers what students are finding hard or what ideas help them study better.
- Write down attendance records accurately and turn them into reports for the department.
- Make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable asking questions.
Who Can Apply?
You must:
- Be a full‑time student at MUT or have finished your degree here recently.
- Have passed the module(s) that you would like to tutor.
- Have an average score of at least 65 % in the relevant subjects.
- Be good at talking with others and explaining ideas.
- Really care about doing well in school and helping classmates succeed.
Pay and Contract
- Stipend: Your pay will depend on your experience and the number of hours you work for each module.
- Contract dates: From March 2026 to December 2026.
- Other benefits: None are included with this role.
How to Apply
If you want to be a PAL tutor, follow these steps:
- Talk to your department’s tutor coordinator to learn which modules need tutoring help and which slots are open.
- Put together the required papers:
- A full curriculum vitae (CV) that shows your background and achievements.
- Official copies of your certificates and grades.
- A short letter (no more than 300 words) telling us why you want to be a tutor.
- Proof that you have a bank account and a recent tax statement from the South African Revenue Service.
- If you get the job, finish all the C3 forms and sign the agreement, then hand them over to the Teaching and Learning Development Centre (TLDC) C3 Office.
