Apply for the 2026 Makhuduthamaga Bursary – Your Path to a Free University Education
If you live in the Makhuduthamaga area of Limpopo and you’re ready to start university, the local council wants to help you. They’re offering a bursary that covers almost everything you need to study, from fees to food. The deadline for the 2026 bursary is January 20, 2026. Read on to see if you qualify and how to get your application in on time.
What the Bursary Covers
The Makhuduthamaga Bursary Fund is one of the most complete help packages in Limpopo. If you win, the council will pay for:
- Registration fees – the cost of getting enrolled at your chosen university.
- Tuition – the main part of your university bill.
- Books and study materials – textbooks, software, or other learning tools.
- Accommodation – a room or flat near campus if you need it.
- Meals – a food allowance for everyday meals.
Because the bursary pays for so much, many students can focus on their studies without worrying about money.
Which Subjects are Accepted
You can only use the bursary for full‑time undergraduate courses in these areas. The council chose these subjects because they are needed for local growth and jobs.
- Accounting
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Economics
- Environmental Science
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Regional & Town Planning
- Waste Management
If you’re studying one of these subjects and want the bursary, you’re in the right place.
How Applicants Are Chosen
The council looks at two main things:
- Academic performance – Your grades in Matric (or your most recent year if you already finished) must be strong.
- Financial need – The bursary is aimed at students who come from families that can’t afford all the costs.
Only people who meet both conditions will be considered. After they check your application, they’ll contact the short‑listed candidates. If you don’t hear back, it likely means you weren’t chosen.

You must satisfy every requirement below. If even one is missing, you cannot get the bursary.

- Live inside the Makhuduthamaga Municipality.
- Be currently in Matric or have finished it.
- Plan to study full‑time at a university in 2026 in one of the approved fields.
