If you’re a South African student or recent graduate who wants real work experience in a local government setting, the KwaDukuza Local Municipality is opening a range of internship positions for a two‑year contract. These roles give you hands‑on learning in key community services and help you build practical skills while earning an annual stipend of R60 000.
The internships are based in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu‑Natal, and you can apply until Wednesday, 11 February 2026 at noon. All applications must be sent in person or by post – no emails or faxes are accepted. The municipality prefers local residents, following the National Employment Equity Act.

- Stipend: R60 000 per year
- Eligibility:
- Finished Grade 12 or higher (NQF Level 4).
- Bachelor’s or National Diploma in Public Administration or Public Management (NQF Level 6/7).
- 35 years old or younger.
- First time doing an internship.
- What You’ll Do:
- Support daily operations of the Community Halls Section.
- Help with tasks that may involve standing, walking, bending, carrying books, and pushing trolleys.
- Learn essential office and community‑service skills.
2. Waste Management
- Stipend: R60 000 per year
- Eligibility:
- Grade 12 or above.
- Bachelor’s or National Diploma in Waste Management, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- 35 years old or younger.
- No previous internship.
- What You’ll Do:
- Work on waste collection schedules, recycling projects, and community clean‑up programmes.
- Get field experience in environmental stewardship.
3. Beach Amenities
- Stipend: R60 000 per year
- Eligibility:
- Grade 12 or higher.
- Bachelor’s or National Diploma in Environmental Management or Horticulture.
- 35 years old or younger.
- First time doing an internship.
- What You’ll Do:
- Assist in maintaining and improving beach facilities.
- Learn about landscaping, coastal management, and visitor services.
