Gold One Bursary 2026 – Your Path to College in a Gold‑Mining Community
Gold One Gedex Operations is launching a new scholarship program for the 2026 academic year. If you live in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, you can apply for a free bursary that will cover tuition, exam costs, textbooks, and on‑campus housing if you study full‑time. Whether you work for Gold One or you’re a student from a nearby mine hosting town, this scholarship can help you start a degree in mining, engineering, finance, or earth science.
Application Deadline: 2 January 2026
The program will award a total of 31 bursaries. Sixteen will go to students who are not employees or dependants of Gold One, and fifteen will be reserved for Gold One employees or their family members.
What Degrees Are Covered?
Gold One supports undergraduate studies in these fields:
- Finance
- Geology and Earth Sciences
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Science
- Mining Engineering
- Other related courses (only for internal applicants)
We focus on subjects that help our mining operations grow and improve.
What Does the Bursary Pay For?
- Course tuition fees
- Exam fees
- Required textbooks
- University dorm rooms for full‑time students
What it does not cover includes laptops, food, internet, transport, short courses, or monthly living costs.
Successful applicants will sign a bursary agreement with Gold One Gedex Operations before starting their studies.
Who Can Apply?
To be considered, you must meet all of the following criteria.
External Applicants
- South African citizen
- Live inside the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality
- Either still in high school or have already finished it
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in one of the approved subjects
- Registered with a recognized South African university
- Show financial need
- Preferably from a mine hosting area such as Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, Nigel, or nearby townships
Internal Applicants
- Permanent Gold One employee or a direct dependant of one
- High school graduate or currently in school
- Registered at a recognized South African university
Documents You Need to Submit
All applications must include certified PDF copies of the following documents. These must be signed by SAPS (South African Police Service) to confirm authenticity.
External Applicants
- Certified ID copy
- Certified proof of university registration
- Official cost estimates for tuition and books
- Proof of your parents’ or guardians’ income (recent payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of grant or pension)
- Proof of your address in Ekurhuleni
Internal Applicants
- Internal application form (available from the T & A department)
- Certified proof of university registration
- Official cost estimates for tuition and books
Missing or wrong documents will mean your application is not considered.
