What the internship involves

The internship will run for two years and will be hosted at the department’s head office in Johannesburg. During this time you will get a monthly stipend of R7,860.50 to cover living costs while you gain hands‑on experience in the public sector.

Who can apply

The internship is for people who have not taken part in any internship before. You need to be a South African citizen, be unemployed at the time of application, and have a suitable qualification:

  • National Diploma or Degree in Library and Knowledge Management
  • Public Management / Governance
  • Information Science

What you’ll do

If you get selected, you will help the directorate with a range of tasks. You’ll support the team with policy drafting, research projects, and managing information resources. You’ll be expected to finish every assignment you receive.

Not submitting both the Z83 form and your CV will mean you will be rejected.

Other important points

  • The new Z83 form can be found at any public service office or on the DPSA website.
  • Only those who make it to the short‑list will be asked to give certified copies of their qualifications, ID, and a driver’s licence if they have one.
  • These copies must be dated within the last six months.
  • Selected candidates will go through two tests: a practical/technical test and an integrity/ethical conduct test.
  • If you have a foreign qualification, it must be checked by SAQA.
  • If you do not hear back within three months of the closing date, you should assume that your application was not successful.
  • The Department can choose not to make any appointments.
