What the Internship Looks Like
The Discovery Internship Programme is a step‑by‑step learning plan. Since 2006, more than 480 graduates have joined, and about 71 % of those interns got permanent jobs after they finished. For 2026, interns will work in the Group Life Operations team, where they will help with tasks like underwriting (checking risk), claims processing, billing, disability management, and general office work. You’ll be part of a high‑performing team and learn how to do your job fast, efficiently, and accurately.
There are three different internship streams you can choose from:
1. Group Life Internship
- Matric / Grade 12 – this is required.
- BCom Degree or Honours – a university degree in business.
- No previous work experience needed – you can start from scratch.
- Age – 18 to 30 years old.
- South African citizenship – either by birth or naturalised before 27 April 1994.
2. Service Consultant Internship
- Matric / Grade 12 – required.
- 2 years of Call Centre experience – you’ll need to have spoken to customers before.
- 1 year in a financial services role – some exposure to finance is a plus.
- Experience with a Linked Investment Service Provider (LISP) – useful but not mandatory.
- A related BCom degree – helpful.
- Computer skills – must know MS Office well.
3. Servicing Administrator Internship
- Matric and at least 2 years of LISP experience.
- Knowledge of the Long‑Term Insurance Act – the laws that govern life insurance.
- Knowledge of the Pension Fund Act – including Sections 50 and 14 transfer rules.
- Understanding of retirement products – what people buy to save for the future.
- Experience with LISP administration – you’ve already handled insurance paperwork.
