What You’ll Learn
The apprenticeship covers eight different trades. You’ll get classroom knowledge and practical training in each of these areas:
- Aircraft Avionician – the people who keep a plane’s electronics running smoothly.
- Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic – the crew who service and repair all parts of an airplane.
- Aircraft Structural Worker II – those who work on the airframe, making sure it stays strong.
- Electrician – install and maintain power systems in a variety of settings.
- Fitter and Turner – weld and assemble metal parts for many industries.
- Mechanical Fitter – set up, test and maintain mechanical equipment.
- Photovoltaic (Solar Technician) – design, install and repair solar energy systems.
- Welder – join metal pieces together using heat or electric arcs.

Requirements for Each Trade

For Aircraft Mechanic, Fitter and Turner, Mechanical Fitter, Welder, Solar Technician and Aircraft Structural Worker II
- Grade 10 (N1) completion
- Good knowledge of Mathematics
- Good knowledge of Science
- Fluent in English
For Aircraft Radiotrician, Aircraft Electrician and Aircraft Avionician
- Grade 11 (N2) completion
- Good knowledge of Mathematics
- Good knowledge of Science
- Fluent in English
