City of Tshwane Apprenticeships 2026 – A Chance to Learn and Earn
The City of Tshwane is launching its Apprenticeships Programme for 2026. This is a special job opportunity for South African students and recent graduates who are not yet working. The program gives you hands‑on training and a pay‑check while you learn real skills that you can use for a full‑time job later. If you’re between 15 and 25, live in Gauteng, and want to start a career in a technical trade, this could be the right path for you.
Apprenticeship Trades for 2026
The City of Tshwane, together with its Learning and Development Division, will run a full apprenticeship program in six different trades. Each trade has a set number of places and a unique reference number that you should use when you apply.
| Trade | Number of Posts | Reference Number |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical | 30 | TLMA-E-2026 |
| Welding | 15 | TLMA-W-2026 |
| Vehicle Mechanics | 30 | TLMA-V-2026 |
| Boilermaking | 15 | TLMA-B-2026 |
| Plumbing | 15 | TLMA-P-2025 |
| Fitting and Turning | 15 | TLMA-F-2026 |
Important: If you want more than one apprenticeship, you must submit a separate application for each trade, using the correct reference number.
What You’ll Earn
If you get a spot, you’ll receive a monthly stipend of R2 792,44. That money will help cover your living costs while you learn on the job.
Who Can Apply?
To be considered for this program you need to meet a few basic requirements:
- A Technical Matric or an NCV Level 4 or N2 certificate that includes Maths, Science, and trade‑related theory.
- A clear interest in becoming an artisan and a willingness to work hard and follow instructions.
- You must not already hold a trade certificate in any of the listed trades.
The City will give priority to people who are women and to previously disadvantaged individuals. If you have a disability, reasonable accommodation will be offered if it meets the job’s physical needs.
