Cape Gate (Pty) Ltd is looking for bright engineering students to join its Cape Gate Isaac Joffe Fellowship Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.
This is a full‑time bursary that will cover the cost of studying a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in one of four engineering subjects. If you’re a student in South Africa who loves engineering and needs help paying for school, this could be the perfect chance to start your career.
What the Bursary Covers
The fellowship is generous. It pays for almost everything you need to finish university:
- Registration fees – the cost to enroll each year.
- Tuition – your main course fees.
- Books – a monthly allowance for textbooks and study materials.
- Computer allowance – a one‑time gift to buy a laptop or upgrade yours.
- Personal allowance – a small extra to cover everyday needs.
- Living costs – you can either stay in a student residence with meals included or receive a monthly stipend if you live elsewhere.
You will get a new payment each year for the full length of your degree, but it will only be given again if you keep up good grades. The program ends when your degree is finished.
How Long It Lasts
- One‑year payment – each year you get the same amount.
- Renewable – the bursary can be re‑awarded every year, as long as you stay on a strong academic track.
- Time limit – the funding stops after you finish your BEng.
If you’re chosen, you’ll receive a written invitation to a short interview. The final decision will be announced no later than 31 January 2026. If you don’t hear from us by then, it means your application was not successful.
What You Must Do
Being a bursary recipient comes with a few responsibilities:
- Work for Cape Gate during the summer – a paid summer job in December and January gives you real‑world experience.
- Work after graduation – once you graduate, you are required to work at Cape Gate for as many years as you were funded. The pay will match what the market pays, but it’s up to the company.
- If you don’t keep the job promise – you must repay the full amount of the bursary plus interest.
These rules make sure that the company can help students get a start, and that students get a chance to learn in the industry.
Who Can Apply
To qualify, you must:
- Be currently in high school (Matric) or have finished it.
- Want to study a BEng in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Enroll in 1st or 2nd year in the 2026 academic year.
- Study at a recognised South African university.
- Have a good academic record.
- Show that you need money to cover school costs.
