Job Opportunity: 5 Building Control Internships – 2026
Beaufort West Local Municipality is looking for unemployed young people, including those with disabilities, to take part in a 12‑month internship program. We need five interns for our Infrastructure Services team, where you will learn the basics of building control and help keep our town’s construction projects safe and compliant.
When and Where?
The internships are based in the Beaufort West Municipal Area. Applications must arrive by Tuesday, 30 January 2026, 12:00 pm. After that time, we will not accept any more files.
Why This Internship Is Great for You
You’ll gain hands‑on experience that can open doors for a future career in engineering, planning or construction. The program also gives you a monthly allowance of R4 500 and a chance to work inside a local government office, where you’ll see real projects and meet professionals who can guide you.
What You’ll Do
- Follow the rules and guidelines for building safety and design.
- Help inspectors check that new buildings meet municipal regulations.
- Learn how plans are approved and how infrastructure projects are managed.
- Work with a team that supports the growth and upkeep of the community.
You’ll be part of a real service, not just a classroom assignment. The work will feel useful and give you a sense of contributing to Beaufort West.
Who Can Apply?
- Age: 20 to 40 years old.
- Status: You must be unemployed at the time of application.
- Education: Hold a National Diploma in one of these areas: Civil Engineering, Town Planning, Building Science, N5 Building, or any civil/building‑related subject that also includes Grade 12.
- Location: Live in the Beaufort West Municipal Area. Proof is required (SAPS address confirmation or a letter from your ward councillor).
- Background: Have a clean criminal record from SAPS and a valid South‑African ID.
- Health: Be physically fit for the duties.
After you apply, the Infrastructure Services Department will give you a written test. Only those who pass will move on to the internship.
What to Put in Your Application
- A cover letter that explains why you want the internship.
- Certified copies of your qualifications.
- A certified copy of your South African ID.
- Proof that you live in the municipality.
If you get selected, you’ll also need a stamped SAPS vetting certificate (or proof you’ve applied for one). Missing any part of this paperwork will mean your application is rejected.
