ArcelorMittal Announces 2026 Production Learnerships for Graduates

ArcelorMittal South Africa is hiring for its 2026 Production Learnership Programme – a chance to start a career in steel making.

If you just finished high school and want a real job that teaches you hands‑on skills, this program could be the right fit. ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s biggest steel makers, is looking for motivated students to learn how to run a steel plant. The training will be held in Vanderbijlpark, a town in Gauteng, South Africa, and will last for 36 months. By the end of the programme you will know what it takes to operate a steel production line, and you could earn a good wage while you learn.

What the learnership involves

When you join the programme you sign a 36‑month learner’s agreement. Your training will have three parts:

  1. Classroom lessons – you’ll learn the science and maths behind steel production at a local college.
  2. On‑site practice – you’ll spend most of your time working under experienced operators in the plant.
  3. Regular checks – tests and reviews help you see how you’re doing and keep you on track.

The goal is to give you a mix of knowledge and real work experience. After the learnership, you’ll have a strong résumé that shows you can work in a busy industrial environment.

Where you’ll work

The program is located at the Vanderbijlpark plant. You will need to live near or be willing to commute there for the whole 3‑year period. If you can’t stay in that area, you may not be able to join the programme.

Who can apply

You must have a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate. The minimum grades are:

  • English – 45%
  • Mathematics – 40% or Mathematics Literacy – 50%

Only applicants who meet these marks will be considered. Make sure your documents show these results clearly.

Why this learnership is worth it

  • Work with a top steel company – you’ll see how a large factory runs, a rare opportunity for a young person.
  • Long‑term training – 3 years of hands‑on instruction means you’ll become a skilled process operator.
  • Better job chances – the skills you gain are useful in many factories and manufacturing jobs across South Africa.
