Alvern Cables is hiring unemployed South African youth for its 2026 Apprenticeship Programme

If you’re a student or recent graduate who is looking for a steady job that will teach you real skills, this could be the right chance for you. Alvern Cables is looking for young people who want to learn the trade of electrical work or mechanical fitting. The programme lasts four years and ends with a recognised trade test qualification. After you finish, you become a certified artisan and will be ready to work in the manufacturing and industrial sector.

  • Location: Germiston, Gauteng

  • Positions available: 6 apprentices – 3 for fitting, 3 for electrical

What you’ll learn

During the four years you will receive a mix of hands‑on training at a real workplace and classroom lessons. You’ll learn how to install and maintain electrical systems or fit and repair mechanical parts. The training is organized so that you progress step by step until you can stand on your own as a qualified artisan.


Who can join?

You must meet all of these basic requirements:

  1. Finish Grade 12 (Standard 10) and have studied Maths and Science.
  2. Hold a N2 Certificate or a trade‑related qualification at NQF Level 2–4 in either electrical or mechanical fitting.
  3. Be a South African citizen.
  4. Currently be unemployed.
  5. Have no criminal record.
  6. Provide references that can be checked.
  7. Speak and write English well.
  8. Be ready to stay in the apprenticeship for all four years.

If you don’t meet every point, your application will not be considered.
