Afrimat Learnership Programme – 2026 – A Chance for South African Unemployed Youth

If you are 15‑18 years old, not working yet, and want to start a real job in engineering or construction, Afrimat KZN Central (Pty) Ltd has a program just for you. They offer a paid training course called a Learnership. It will give you hands‑on work, classroom lessons, and a chance to meet experienced professionals. By the end, you will have a certificate that shows you can work as a Diesel Mechanic, Electrical Technician, Fitter, or Boilermaker in the mining or construction industries.

What the Learnership Looks Like

A learnership is a combination of learning and earning. You’ll spend part of your time working on real projects, and the rest in training classes. The goal is to turn unemployed teens and young adults into skilled artisans who can find steady jobs afterward.

Trades Offered

Afrimat is hiring for four main trades:

  1. Diesel Mechanic – Replace and repair diesel engines.
  2. Electrical Technician – Install and fix wiring and electrical systems.
  3. Fitter – Assemble, fit, and maintain heavy machinery.
  4. Boilermaker – Fabricate and work with large metal metal frames.

What You’ll Do

During the program you will:

  • Check engines, find problems, and fix mechanical parts.
  • Use diagnostic tools to locate faults in diesel and other systems.
  • Help put together electrical wiring, circuits, and control panels.
  • Join teams that build and maintain machines and production lines.
  • Look after pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, and valves.
  • Build metal structures and learn how to work safely with heavy equipment.

All this happens in a real work environment, so you’ll see how a job is done from start to finish.

Minimum Qualifications

To join the learnership you must:

  • Be currently unemployed.
  • Send an up‑to‑date curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Provide a certified copy of your ID.
  • Show a certified Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • Offer proof of where you live.
  • Agree to a background check, including qualification, employment, and criminal record screening.
  • Be ready for a medical fitness test if you are chosen.

If you meet these basics, you can apply.

How to Apply

  1. Prepare a short email telling Afrimat you want to apply.
  2. Include your CV and all required documents (ID, Matric, proof of residence).
  3. Put the trade you want to join in the subject line of your email. For example: “Fitter Learnership” or “Electrical Technician Learnership”.
