Transnet Learnership & DOT WIL – deadlines 6 & 9 Oct 2026

Young South Africans who need a Thapelo Madibe Bursary can start earning a wage and a qualification right now – many programmes close between 1 and 9 October 2026.

What the opportunities are

Two main programmes are ending soon:

  • Transnet Trainee Controller Learnership 2026 – training to help move petroleum products safely through Transnet’s pipelines.
  • Department of Transport Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme 2026/2027 – practical work experience for TVET students who have finished an N6 qualification.

Who can apply

Transnet requires:

  • Grade 12 or N3 (or equivalent) – see the specific programme requirements.
  • Good analytical ability, attention to detail, perseverance, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and work independently.

Department of Transport requires:

  • Completion of a relevant N6 qualification from a recognised TVET college.
  • Enrollment as a TVET student seeking workplace exposure.

Both programmes are open to South African citizens only.

What you will gain

  • Paid training (learnership stipend) while you study.
  • Nationally recognised qualification (Level 4/Level 5 depending on the programme).
  • Industry‑specific skills – pipeline control for Transnet, transport operations for DOT.
  • Improved employability and a possible path to permanent work.

How to apply – step by step

  1. Visit the official application page for the programme you want (the “Click here” link on the original announcement).
  2. Register on the portal and create a user profile.
  3. Upload a recent passport‑size photo, your ID or passport copy, and your Grade 12/N6 certificates.
  4. Fill in the online application form – double‑check dates of birth, contact details and qualification information.
  5. Submit the form before the closing date.
  6. Keep a copy of the confirmation email for your records.

Tips to improve your chances

  • Read the full eligibility criteria – missing a single requirement will disqualify you.
  • Tailor your personal statement to show the competencies listed (e.g., analytical ability, perseverance).
  • Proofread all documents; spelling mistakes can make a bad impression.
  • Apply early – online portals can become slow close to the deadline.
  • Have a backup copy of all certificates and IDs ready to upload.
