What the SACTA Bursary Programme offers
SACTA will fund students who plan to work in South Africa’s grain and oilseed breeding and technology sector. The bursary covers recognised, accredited tertiary institutions and requires you to conduct research that benefits the industry.
Who can apply – eligibility
- South African citizen
- Matric completed
- Enrolled or intending to enrol full‑time in Honours, Master’s (by dissertation) or Doctoral study related to the grain/oilseed industry
- Study at a recognised and accredited university or college
- Not receiving another bursary unless SACTA approves it
- Willing to write a thesis on a topic approved by the Trust
- Commit to work in the South African agricultural sector after graduation
- Agree to SACTA’s bursary conditions, policies and the legal undertaking (Section E)
What you will gain
The funding can cover up to R99 750 per year for a two‑year Master’s by dissertation, or up to R131 250 per year for a three‑year PhD. Payments are made after you submit approved progress reports. The first instalment is expected in January 2027. In addition to the financial support, you will build expertise in a high‑need field and secure a job in South Africa’s essential grain and oilseed industry.
