What the learnership offers
Dis-Chem is looking for learners who will complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. You will start on a fixed‑term contract, work under a qualified pharmacist, and may be offered a permanent role once you qualify.
Who can apply
You must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Grade 12 certificate
- Pure Mathematics completed
- Either Physical Science or Life Science completed
- Overall average of at least 50 %
Good command of English (and a second language) is required, along with the ability to work in a team.
What you will gain
The learnership combines on‑the‑job training with formal coursework. You will learn how to:
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines
- Prepare and compound non‑sterile medicines
- Unpack, merchandise, and organise dispensary stock
- Interpret prescriptions and label medication accurately
- Ensure pharmacist sign‑off on all dispensed items
- Handle stock control, expiry monitoring and reporting
- Provide health information and support to customers
- Work with medical scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication
- Perform other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager
