Right now, young South Africans who are out of work have a chance to start a career in engineering. Nampak is looking for applicants for its 2026 Electrical and Fitter & Turner Apprenticeship Programme at Metals Epping, Cape Town.
What the opportunity is
Nampak will take four apprentices into the Engineering Department of its Metals Epping site. Two spots are for the Electrical trade and two are for Fitter & Turner. The apprenticeship begins in 2027 and runs alongside on‑the‑job training.
Who can apply
You must have:
- Matric with Mathematics, Physical Science and English as a second language, scoring at least 50 %.
- NTC3 Engineering (or a higher qualification) that includes trade theory.
- Proof of both the NTC3 certificate and the transcript showing subjects and marks.
Additional expectations include a basic understanding of engineering, good teamwork, organisation and communication skills, basic computer literacy, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to do overtime or shift work when needed.
What you will gain
Apprentices will complete required theory modules and receive intensive workplace training. You will get hands‑on experience in maintenance, installations, troubleshooting and problem solving. The role also supports production by helping keep equipment reliable and available, all while following strict safety and plant rules.
