The SANRAL Scholarship Programme is open for South African learners who need financial help to stay in school, and the deadline is fast approaching.
What the opportunity is
SANRAL – the South African National Roads Agency – is offering a limited number of scholarships for the 2027 academic year. The award can cover school fees, boarding (if needed), uniforms, books, transport, extra maths and science lessons, and access to a wellness programme.
Applications open on 1 July 2026 and close on 30 September 2026. All applications are submitted online.
Who can apply
- South African citizens
- Registered at an endorsed South African school
- Applying for Grade 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12
- Overall academic average of at least 60 %
- Household income below R550 000 per year
- Ability to upload all required supporting documents

How to apply – step by step

- Create an account and start the online application.
- Fill in all personal, academic and financial details accurately.
- Upload the required documents (see list below).
- Review every section – you cannot edit after submission.
- Submit the application before 30 September 2026.
Required documents
- Motivation letters from the learner, a parent/guardian, and the school (≈2 pages each).
- Proof of address (utility bill, council letter, or bank statement with affidavit).
- Certified copies (within three months) of:
- June academic results
- Learner’s ID or birth certificate
- Parents’/guardian’s IDs
- Death certificates, if applicable
- Proof of household income (salary slips, wage slips, or Department of Labour letter – not older than three months). If parents are unemployed, provide unemployment letters, SASSA documents, or bank statements.
- If parents are informal traders, business owners, or earn commissions, include relevant income proof such as tax returns, balance sheets, or lease agreements.
- Additional documents only if they apply to your situation (e.g., divorce papers, guardianship proof, marriage certificates, court orders).
Tips to improve your chances
- Double‑check that every document is clear and readable before uploading.
- Make sure your motivation letters are honest, personal and explain why you need the scholarship.
- Ensure the household income figures match the proof you provide.
- Submit all certified copies within the three‑month window.
- Proofread the entire form – any missing information will lead to disqualification.
