What the opportunity is
The RAF is offering learnership programmes in four areas: Claims, Claims Adjudication, Medical Management, and Technology & Digital. Each programme runs for 12 months and gives you real‑world work experience in a government‑run organisation.
Who can apply
To be eligible you must meet all of the following:
- Be South African and unemployed.
- Be between 18 and 23 years old.
- Have completed Grade 12 (Matric) – some posts also require Mathematics.
- Never have taken part in a similar RAF learnership or worked in the same field before.
- Be willing to undergo background verification and security vetting.
What you will gain
Each stream teaches specific skills that are valuable in the job market:
Medical Management – Cape Town (Ref 7004)
- Handling medical undertakings and payment processes.
- Working with claim‑view systems and treatment plans.
- Assessing invoices, pre‑authorisations and care plans.
- Receiving a monthly stipend – the advert lists R4 500.
Technology & Digital – East London (Ref 6999) – also in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban & Pretoria
- Computer hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Network, internet and security‑patch management.
- Support for Microsoft Intune, device compliance and ICT incidents.
- Desktop support and asset verification.
- Most adverts show a stipend of R54 000 per year.
- Only the first 100 applications are considered for some locations.
Claims Learnership – Various locations (Refs 7005, 7008, 7010, 7006, 7012)
- Receiving and filing claim documents.
- Drafting undertakings and communicating with attorneys.
- Scanning, indexing and uploading records.
- Compliance checks and issuing letters.
- Some posts target people with disabilities (Durban locations).
How to apply – step by step
- Prepare a short CV (max three pages) and a motivational letter.
