What the apprenticeship offers
The company will train you to become a qualified artisan in either boilermaking or welding. You will study theory, practice skills on the shop floor and get real work experience at their Bethal site in Mpumalanga.
Who can apply
You must meet all of the following:
- Be unemployed and looking for a trade career.
- Be 35 years old or younger.
- Hold a Grade 12 certificate with at least 50 % in the required subjects.
- Subjects needed: English, Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, Physical Science or Technical Science. (Mathematical Literacy does not count.)
- Be physically and medically fit for hands‑on work.
- Have a clean criminal record.
- Provide proof of residence – a recent municipal account is required.
- Live within a 50 km radius of any of these power stations: Arnot, Camden, Duvha, Hendrina, Kendal, Kriel, Kusile, Majuba.
What you will gain
Successful apprentices receive:
- 36 months of structured learning (theory, practical tasks and workplace exposure).
- Mentoring from experienced engineering staff.
- Preparation for and the chance to sit the official trade test.
- A nationally recognised qualification as a Qualified Boilermaker or Qualified Welder.
- Practical skills that are in demand in mechanical and industrial engineering.
