Need help paying for your civil engineering studies? The South African Institution of Civil Engineering is offering a bursary for the second semester of 2026, and the deadline is fast approaching.
What is the SAICE Patrons Engineering Bursary?
This is a partial‑funding programme for civil engineering students who are struggling financially. Successful applicants can receive up to R7 000 per semester to cover registration fees, tuition and prescribed textbooks. The money is paid straight to the university – you will not receive cash.
Who can apply?
You must meet all of the following conditions:
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Enrolled in a recognised and accredited South African university or college
- Studying a Civil Engineering degree or National Diploma
- Already passed the first‑semester examinations for your course
- Demonstrate financial need
- Maintain a good academic record and have passed all previous subjects
Degree students should be entering their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year. Diploma students must have passed the first semester (S1) and be moving into later semesters.
What will you receive?
The bursary can cover:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Approved textbooks
The exact amount depends on your academic performance, the level of need you demonstrate, and the funds available. The award is not enough to cover all expenses, but it can ease a big part of the load.
How to apply – step by step

- Fill in every compulsory field on the form.
- Get a certified copy of your South African ID.
- Obtain a certified copy of your full tertiary academic record (all subjects and results).
- Include your most recent semester results.
- Scan all documents clearly and save them as PDFs.
- Attach every file to a single email.
- Use “SPEBS Bursary” as the email subject line.

Tips to improve your chances
- Double‑check that every page of your certificates is legible.

- Submit before the deadline – late applications will not be considered.
