What the scholarship offers

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is offering a High School Scholarship for the 2028 academic year. It is designed for learners who will start Grade 8 in 2028. The award covers everything you need for school life and adds extra personal‑development opportunities.

Who can apply

  • South African citizens (at least one parent must also be SA citizen)
  • Born in 2014 or 2015 (aged 11‑12 in 2026)
  • In Grade 6 during the 2026 school year
  • Will enter Grade 8 in 2028
  • Demonstrate genuine financial need – household income ≤ R20 000 per month
  • Achieved ≥ 70 % in English, Mathematics and overall average in Grade 5 and Grade 6
  • Show interest in entrepreneurship and possess traits such as curiosity, leadership, problem‑solving, growth mindset and the ability to spot opportunities

How to apply

  1. Visit the official scholarship site and register your details.
  2. Log in with your new credentials here.
  3. Complete the online application form and upload all required documents.

Required supporting documents

  • Certified copy of your full birth certificate
  • Certified copies of your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) ID documents
  • Certified copy of your Grade 5 Term 4 report
  • Certified copy of your Grade 6 Term 2 report
  • Proof of parents’/guardians’ income (payslips & bank statements, tax return, or affidavit if unemployed)
  • Relevant documents if parents are deceased, divorced or you live with a legal guardian

Selection process

  1. Submit the completed application and all supporting papers.
  2. Write the Foundation’s Mathematics and English exam in December 2026 (for Grade 6).
  3. Attend interviews scheduled for February–March 2027.
  4. Visit placement schools for additional interviews.
  5. Receive a scholarship offer if you are recommended by a placement school.
  6. Sign a Memorandum of Agreement between the Foundation, the school and your custodian.

Tips to improve your chances

  • Check every document for clarity and certification before submitting.
  • Practice past‑paper maths and English questions to feel confident for the exam.
  • Write a short personal statement about why you want to be an entrepreneur – be genuine.
  • Ask a teacher or mentor to review your application and give feedback.
  • Submit everything well before the deadline; late entries are not accepted.
