Do you want to help improve prison conditions while earning a stable salary? The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services is hiring Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCV) and the deadline is fast approaching – apply by 5 June 2026.
What the role involves
ICCVs are contracted for 36 months to visit correctional facilities, listen to inmate concerns, check living conditions and report any incidents. The work is carried out in KwaZulu‑Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng and Limpopo.
Who can apply
- South African citizen with a Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
- Basic computer skills
- Good written and verbal communication
- Can work alone and in a team
- Know the Batho Pele principles
- Stay calm under pressure
- Assertive and professional attitude
You must also attach a recent (no older than 6 months) recommendation or nomination letter from a community organisation confirming you as an ICCV.
Preference is given to applicants who live close to the specific correctional centre.
What you will earn
- Salary: R89 046 per year
- Level 3/8th, Level 05
- Benefit allowance: 37 % in lieu of benefits

Key duties
- Visit the assigned correctional centre each day
- Speak with inmates and prison staff
- Record and follow up on inmate complaints
- Monitor living conditions, segregation, use of force and restraints
- Report deaths and any breaches of policy
- Assist JICS officials during inspections and investigations
- Prepare administrative reports and capture mandatory data
