What’s the Pharmacy Internship all about?

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has a full‑time 12‑month internship that will give new pharmacy graduates real workplace experience. You’ll spend a year working in Gauteng’s public hospitals, learning the skills that will help you pass the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) registration test and land a job in the health sector.

Inside the Internship

Core Rotations

  1. In‑Patient Pharmacy – Give medicines to patients in hospital wards and keep track of the medicine stocks.
  2. Out‑Patient Pharmacy – Fill prescriptions, talk with patients about their medicine, and give advice on staying healthy.
  3. Bulk Compounding & Pre‑Packing – Mix up disinfectants and other medicines in large batches, and pack ready‑to‑take medicine packets.
  4. Patient Care Areas – Join doctors on ward rounds and work closely with doctors, nurses and other health workers.

These rotations make sure you see every side of what a public hospital pharmacy does, so you leave the program ready for any pharmacy job.
