What’s the job?
Nampak is looking for six young people in South Africa who are ready to start a career in the metal industry. The role is the Fitter & Turner Apprentice Programme 2026 and will be based in Nampak Metals’ factory in Springs, Gauteng. The job mixes classroom learning with hands‑on work on the shop floor, so you’ll learn theory and practice side by side.

Why this apprenticeship matters
In this apprenticeship you’ll learn to keep machines running, fix problems when they pop up, and help make products that other companies use. The training is split into three parts: theory classes, on‑the‑job learning, and final tests. By the end of it you’ll know how to read technical drawings, use tools safely, and follow strict quality rules. This type of work is in demand, so finishing the programme can open many doors for future jobs.
What you’ll do every day
- Study the theory modules needed for the Fitter & Turner trade.
- Take part in intensive on‑the‑job training with experienced mentors.
- Pass the required Trade Theory exams (levels 1, 2 and 3).
- Run routine quality checks to match the company’s standards.
- Keep equipment ready and working so the factory can keep producing.
- Perform maintenance tasks and install new parts in a safe way.
- Use problem‑solving skills to fix issues quickly.
- Help your team stay on target with quality rules.
- Keep accurate records and submit reports as required.
- Follow all plant safety rules and company regulations.
Who should apply?
- Someone with at least an N3 in Mechanical Engineering.
- Good math and physics skills – these are compulsory subjects for the program.
- A basic understanding of how machines work.
- Able to read and understand technical drawings.
- Comfortable using a computer for simple tasks.
- Good at talking with others and explaining ideas.
- A team player who keeps things organized.
- Positive attitude and willing to work when you need to.
- Ready to work overtime or shifts when the factory needs it.
