Moshal Scholarships 2026: Start Your Career Today

The Moshal Program is launching a new Scholarship Programme for the 2026 academic year. If you are a South African student who wants to study a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) or commerce degree and you come from a low‑income family, this scholarship could cover everything you need to get into and finish university. The application deadline is 31 December 2025, and it is only for full‑time undergraduate students.

What the Scholarship Covers

When you win a Moshal Scholarship, you get:

  • Full tuition fees paid to the university
  • Monthly allowance for living costs and meals
  • A laptop to help you study online and offline
  • Support from a Program Coordinator who stays in touch with you throughout the year
  • Mentoring from professionals who work in your chosen field
  • Guidance on how to build a career and how to talk to potential employers
  • Access to workshops that teach useful skills such as project management, teamwork and coding
  • Entry into a community of students and alumni who can share experiences and advice

If your application is shortlisted, you may be called in for an interview. Everyone who applies will get a quick email letting them know if they made the cut.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify you need to meet these simple rules:

  • You must be currently in your final year of high school (Matric) or you must have finished Matric already.
  • You plan to study full‑time at a university in 2026.
  • You are applying to or have already been accepted at one of the following universities:
    • Nelson Mandela University (NMU)
    • Rhodes University (RU)
    • Stellenbosch University (SUN)
    • University of Cape Town (UCT)
    • University of the Free State (UFS)
    • University of Johannesburg (UJ)
    • University of KwaZulu‑Natal (UKZN)
    • University of Pretoria (UP)
    • University of the Western Cape (UWC)
    • University of the Witwatersrand (WITS)
  • You scored at least 70 % in English, Mathematics, Physical Science and/or Accounting.
  • Your household earns less than R200 000 per year.

How to Apply

Start the process by creating an account on the Moshal application portal. After that, fill in your personal details and upload the required documents. The main link to begin is Apply for the Moshal Scholarship.

Documents You Need Now

  • Copy of your ID
  • Passport and study visa copies (if you are not a South African citizen)
  • Copies of your parents’ or guardians’ IDs
  • Declaration or consent form if you are under 18
  • Proof of social grants or three‑month bank statements for your parents/guardians
  • Your Grade 11 November results

Documents You Might Need If You’re Shortlisted

  • Final matric results (if you are still in high school)
  • Latest university transcript (if you are already studying)
  • Proof that you have been accepted or have a provisional offer from a university
  • National Benchmark Test (NBT) scores, if you have them
  • Proof that you have applied for other funding sources
  • Your parents’ or guardians’ payslips

Important Date

The last day to send in your application is 31 December 2025. Once the deadline passes, no more applications will be accepted.
