If you’re a recent graduate from South Africa who doesn’t have a job yet, the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) is looking for fresh talent to join its 2025 Internship Programme. The goal is to help the country fight HIV & AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The internships give you real work experience, help you learn practical skills, and let you contribute to a very important public health mission. There are two positions available – an HR Intern and a Database Developer Intern – both based in Centurion, Gauteng, and both paying a stipend of R6 000 per month for 12 months.

HR Intern – What you’ll do
Purpose
The HR internship gives you a chance to see how a national health organisation runs its human resources. You’ll learn how to manage people, support hiring, and help run everyday office tasks. This experience can make you more marketable when you look for a full‑time job later.
Main duties
- Help with recruiting and hiring new staff.
- Assist new employees during their first days.
- Keep employee files up to date.
- Support training programs and record attendance.
- Take care of payroll paperwork and basic calculations.
- Help track performance reviews.
- Work on employee relations and keep records.
- Organise health and wellness events.
- Compile HR reports and keep files tidy.
- Do general admin work for the HR team.
Who we’re looking for
- A diploma or degree in HR, Industrial Psychology, Public Administration (HR focus) or a similar field.
- Strong organising and admin skills.
- Good writing and speaking in English.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
- Detail‑oriented and able to keep information private.
- Ready to learn and stay positive.
Database Developer Intern – What you’ll do
Purpose
If you like numbers and software, this internship will let you build and manage databases that SANAC uses to track health data. You’ll help keep information accurate, create useful reports, and make it easier for staff to access the data they need.
Main duties
- Design, create, and fine‑tune databases.
- Clean and validate data to keep it error‑free.
- Write and keep documentation for database changes.
- Provide basic technical help to users.
- Build dashboards and reports using Excel or Power BI.
- Analyse data for trends and patterns.
- Solve simple database problems.
- Work with project teams to improve how data is handled.
Who we’re looking for
- A diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
- Knowledge of database tools like SQL or MS Access.
- Good analytical and number skills.
- Experienced with Excel; familiarity with business‑intelligence tools is a plus.
- Able to keep data confidential.
- Willing to learn and enjoy a data‑driven workplace.
