SANRAL 2025 Internship – A Chance for New Graduates in South Africa
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) is looking for fresh graduates who are ready to start a real job experience in engineering. They are offering a 24‑month internship program that gives you hands‑on work inside the Engineering Department. If you’re a recent student who wants to learn about road projects and road safety, this could be a great fit.

When you finish the internship you will have worked in one of two special areas: Research & Innovation or Asset Management. Both areas help make South Africa’s roads safer and smarter. You will also receive a yearly stipend of R96 000 and the internship lasts for two full years.
Internship Types
1. Research and Innovation
Requirements – You must have a NQF 7 qualification in Public Administration & Management.
What you will do
- Work with the Research, Innovation and Road Safety Education Manager.
- Plan and run research workshops to find out what studies are needed.
- Help reviewers look over research proposals.
- Keep track of progress at quarterly meetings.
- Handle contracts, budgets, and payments that match research milestones.
- Enter data into the ITIS Research Module and create impact reports.
- Help present research findings at industry talks.
- Offer support to Master’s and PhD students.
- Keep the research database updated and send regular reports to the Focus Group.
2. Asset Management
Requirements – You need a NQF 6 or higher in Civil Engineering.
What you will do
Learn how to use traffic monitoring tools (TMH3 and TMH14).
Assist in creating tenders and keep traffic databases current.
Understand how to assess road structures (TMH19).
Keep the structure database tidy and check quality of the data.
Work with the Road Asset Management Manual (TMH22).
Support ISO55001 certification tasks.
Log procurement data and verify configurations.
Help set up 3‑D Lidar scans for road projects.
