The North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) is rolling out a 2026 Internship Programme for South African graduates who are still looking for work. You’ll get paid, learn about government work, and build a resume that will help you land a full‑time role later on.
Program basics
• Deadline: 12 December 2025
• Location: Mmabatho, North West Province
• Stipend: R7,600 per month
• Length: 24 months
This internship lets you work in a variety of departments, giving you hands‑on experience that is useful for almost any career path. The goal is to give young people the skills and confidence they need to find good jobs after the program ends.

- Bachelor of Social Work or Psychology
2. Human Resource Management
- Bachelor in Human Resource Management or Public Administration
3. Minimum Information Security Standard
- National Diploma in Policing or a Bachelor in Information Security Management
4. Labour Relations
- BA in Sociology and Labour Management
- BA in Labour Relations (Honours)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Law
- LLB
5. Financial Management
- BCom Accounting or BCom Auditing
6. Supply Chain Management
- BCom in Supply Chain or BCom in Logistics and Supply Chain
7. Communication Internships
- Journalism – BA Communication in Journalism
- Graphic Design – Diploma in Graphic Design
- Public Relations – BA Communication in Public Relations
- Development Communication – any related qualification
8. Information Technology
- BSc Computer Science, BCom Information Systems or National Diploma in Information Systems
9. Integrated Economic Development Services
- BCom Business Administration, BCom Accounting or BCom Marketing
10. Tourism
- Degree or Diploma in Tourism Management and Development
11. Economic Planning
- BCom Economics and Research
12. Legal Section
- Open to all who meet the general legal qualification requirements.
13. Consumer Affairs
- Open to all who meet the general consumer‑rights qualifications.
14. Trade and Sector Development
- Open to all who meet the general trade‑development qualifications.
15. Environment Services
- Bachelor’s in Environmental Science, Conservation and Tourism, or National Diploma in Nature Conservation
- Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology Management
