Are you a South African high‑school graduate who doesn’t have a job yet? The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WDAC) is looking for 30 bright young people to join a one‑year internship starting on 1 April 2026. This program is designed to give you real work experience in the world of farming and rural development. The internship will be located in one of five rural district municipalities in the Western Cape: Cape Winelands, Central Karoo, Garden Route, Overberg, or West Coast. If you finish your final exams and are between 18 and 24 years old, you could be one of the 30 interns who will earn a monthly stipend of around R5,639 to R6,659 while learning on the job.


What the Internship Looks Like

  • Position: Matric Intern
  • Length: 12 months (fixed‑term contract)
  • Stipend: R5,639.64 – R6,659.36 per month
  • Start Date: 1 April 2026
  • Locations: Cape Winelands, Central Karoo, Garden Route, Overberg, West Coast
  • Total Spots: 30

The WDAC wants to support young people who live in rural areas and who have never worked for a government agency before. Female applicants and those with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.


Who Can Apply

  1. You must be a South African citizen living in the Western Cape.
  2. You need to have finished Grade 12 in the province (or still be a Grade 12 student – you will be accepted only if you pass your matric exams).
  3. You should be 18–24 years old.
  4. This is your first time applying for a government internship.
  5. If you come from one of the rural areas listed above, you will get priority.

What You Need to Send

When you apply, send the following documents:

  • A filled‑out Z83 Application Form.
  • A detailed CV that shows your school work, any part‑time jobs or volunteer work, and any hobbies or skills that could help you in an agriculture role.
  • A certified copy of your ID.
  • A certified copy of your school results.
  • Indicate every district you are interested in (for example, “Matric Intern – Garden Route”).

The application deadline is 15 December 2025, so you have a few months to get everything ready.

  1. Email your application to EDI@westerncape.gov.za.
    • Attach the Z83 form, CV, ID copy, and academic results.
    • Make sure your email clearly states which district(s) you want to work in.
  2. If you prefer to submit a paper application, send the same documents by email as described above.

After you send your application, wait for a reply. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you don’t hear back within a month of the closing date, your application was not successful.
