LGSETA Bursary 2026 – A Chance to Study and Grow in the Local Government Field

The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) is launching a new bursary program for the 2026 academic year. If you are a South African student, whether you just finished high school or you are already studying at a university or TVET college, and you want to learn skills that are useful in local government, this bursary could give you the money you need to study full‑time. It is part of LGSETA’s plan for 2025/2026 to help young people build the knowledge and experience that can lead to future jobs.

What the Bursary Covers

  • Full‑time tuition for students at public universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges.
  • Courses that fit into the local government sector, such as public administration, community development, or municipal finance.
  • One academic year of support – the 2026 school year.

You need to be a South African citizen or a permanent resident and be enrolled full‑time at a recognized public institution. The course you choose must match the qualifications listed on LGSETA’s website.

Who Can Apply?

  1. Grade 12 graduates who have received an offer from a public university, university of technology, or TVET college.
  2. Students already in a program who are still registered as full‑time learners.
  3. Unemployed people looking to gain a qualification that will help them secure a job in local government.

To be considered, you must send all the required documents before the deadline of 28 November 2025 at 23:59 (midnight). LGSETA plans to award 230 bursaries across approved qualifications.
