People who live close to a centre where a job is open get a little edge.
What You Need
- Grade 12 or a senior certificate
- Good at using computers and accurate with details
- Letter showing you’ve worked as an ICCV for a community group (no older than 6 months)
- Can work alone and with others
- Know the Batho Pele principles (fair treatment for all people)
- Strong in speaking and writing
- Can keep calm when things get stressful
A valid driver’s licence helps but isn’t mandatory.
What You’ll Do
- Go to the correctional centre every day
- Talk to inmates and prison staff about any problems
- Watch the living conditions and make sure they follow the rules
- Note any deaths, separate‑off‑cells situations, or use of force
- Help JICS staff with inspections and investigations
- Record complaints and write detailed reports
- Handle paperwork that deals with complaints
You’ll be the person who keeps prisons honest and makes sure that inmates are treated fairly.
